June Stylist of the Month: Billy

June 2, 2016

PIN: How did you begin your career in hairdressing?

Billy Irby: I went to a small school in east Texas and after finishing hair school my boss got a makeover with José Eber and said that's where you need to work. I got a intern position and worked with José for 13 years then Premier Atelier for 7 years and now happy to say Pin Salon is our new home.

PIN: What's your favorite thing about PIN Salon?
BI: PIN Salon is like my family. We have hand-picked each person on our team and I enjoy them everyday. I'm a people person and love getting to know each and every one of my clients. I love hearing about their favorite travel spots and kid stories. Some of my clients have been with me since I started 20 years ago!

PIN: How would you describe your hair coloring style?
BI: I would say I’m more of a conservative colorist. I like a natural look - always go as natural as you can get with color!

PIN: What color trends are you seeing for spring?
BI: Red is always a hot color for spring. Copper is one I think we will see a lot of this spring. Brunette is a color we will see as well with some honey tone highlights for a little dimension.

PIN: What's your least favorite hair color trend?
BI: My least favorite color trend are BIG chunks of color or stripes with a strong contrast. It's not a flattering look.

PIN: Which celebrities have the best hair in your opinion?
BI: George Clooney - I like that he rocks the grey hair and always has a sleek haircut. Jennifer Lopez is a trend setter and has beautiful color and style to go with it!

PIN: What are your favorite hair products currently?
BI: I love Chroma Captive shampoo and conditioner. It's a great color safe shampoo and conditioner and leaves your hair so soft. Kérastase conditiong treatments is a must - everyone can use one. You can customize each treatment for your specific needs.

PIN: What is an overlooked treatment in the salon?
BI: A gloss is a great option. A gloss will help with fading and adds a beautiful shine to the hair. You can also use a color enhancing shampoo it will brighten the color and help you keep your hair fresh until your next color visit.

PIN: Where do you get your inspiration for hair color?
BI: I get my inspiration from flowers and paintings. I love the variations in the colors from light yellow to the depth of a dark yellow.

PIN: Any advice for other hairstylists?
BI: Always listen to your clients they have to trust you.
